Om arrangementet

Gunaketu will present highlights from his chapter in the book “Religion, Sustainability and Education – pedagogy, perspectives, and praxis towards ecological sustainability” during the online Triratna Earth Sangha conference

Taking the five common ethical guidelines most Buddhists around the world share, Gunaketu shows how these can be used to work on five of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG): 1) Practice love to reduce inequality – UNSDG 10; 2) Not taking the not given by pursuing sustained, inclusive and sustainable growth in happiness (rather than economic growth), full and productive employment and decent work for all: A modified UNSDG 8; 3) Practicing contentment to ensure no poverty or hunger for anyone – UNSDG 1&2; 4) Communication for partnership – UNSDG 17. 5) Mindfulness 3.0 for sustainable cities and communities – UNSDG 11.

This presentation is part of the weekend online conference: A Wisdom as Vast as the Ocean: Embodying Interdependence - The third annual Triratna Earth Sangha conference, climate café and puja.

It starts on Friday 17.11 at 20.00 Norwegian time (CET) and finishes on Sunday 19 November at 19.30 CET.

Join us for a weekend of talks, workshops and practice exploring how we as Buddhists can respond to the climate and ecological emergency.

Global heating is in the news, while some governments and fossil-fuel multinationals are actually reducing their carbon reduction targets. It seems as if we are back to 'business as usual', until the next extreme weather event or species extinction. How do we respond as Buddhists to the claims of 'climate justice'? How does the Dharma inspire us to respond creatively to the climate and ecological emergency?

At the heart of this year's conference will be a climate café and a mass-participation event on Saturday. The conference will include papers, workshops, guided meditations, puja, music, poetry and the visual arts. We will present perspectives of particularly affected communities and show what Buddhists can do in this current time of multiple crises.
